Lose the Label's goals are to fight apathy, empower young people and generate student activism. Easier said than done (duh) but that's why we're here.

It's a social networking site for young people who want social change. Not only want it, but demand it and work for it. The main difference between Lose the Label and other websites is that our space is first and foremost for organizing, not discussion. Now, this doesn't by any means mean we discourage discussion --- it's great, it's how we learn, it's necessary, it's welcome --- it just means that when push comes to shove, our first priority is to protect the community member trying to organize, not the one looking to argue.

The theory is that social networking can become a great organizing tool by speeding up communication between activists, thus making it easier to launch and sustain student-run campaigns. We want to make shit happen, the sooner the better. Our generation has been saddled with massive problems and our government is completely dysfunctional --- who's going to fix stuff? W?

Really now.

Throughout the site, you can find tons of lessons and tips about activism, especially the independent/homemade/DIY brand. The community is a living resource for beginners to learn from the more experienced -- if you're new to the game and have a question, there's a good chance someone here can answer it. All you have to do is ask.

We're run by students and young grads, all volunteers, scattered all over the country. For information on how we started, check out this post. Welcome to the site. Hope you find it useful.
