As I was driving my truck around on teh intartubes this morning, I happened upon this particular internet:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18384667/site/newsweek/
On page three, it mentions that a number of internet broadcasters are planning to go silent on May 8. I guess that means we'd better get our act in gear. The nice thing is that we no longer have to provide the catalyst; it's just a matter of convincing them to do something that a bunch of other broadcasters are going to do. Here's another website I picked up during my drive:
http://www.savenetradio.org/
Here are the stations I plan on contacting:
http://radiok.cce.umn.edu/ - University of Minnesota
http://krlxweb.carleton.edu/ - Carleton College
http://www.stolaf.edu/orgs/ksto/ - St. Olaf College
I'm also cross-posting this in the "Projects" section.
This whole ordeal disappoints me incredibly, and it also makes me want to destroy the RIAA. Right now, however, we've got to do damage control. We've got to start moving. If your campus has an internet radio station, I'd urge you to talk to them about this. If you've got a local radio station that also streams, I'd suggest you do the same.
I'll try to contact some
I'll try to contact some people at KCSB, the station here. they might be down / or already partipating.

I'll talk to the managers at
I'll talk to the managers at WSLC. DJs probably won't be playing next week anyway because it's the worst week of the semester, but there'd be music playing. I'll push for dead air.

Boo. The manager I got in
Boo. The manager I got in contact with emailed me back very quickly to tell me that she was impressed that I was taking such an interest and definitely supports the protest and thinks it's a good idea. HOWEVER, there's a "personal matter that will prevent us from protesting fully" (she's graduating and her last show, which she ha been planning for a long time, is on the 8th). She did say she'll bring it up at the managers meeting tomorrow to see what else we can do to support Internet radio.
