Just a brief post, but this made my brain hurt more than usual so I thought I'd share. Hat tip to magnifico over at Docudharma.
Scene --- President Bush talking to reporters after meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan...
Q Yes, sir. Every indication out of the OPEC meeting of ministers in Vienna is that they will be holding output steady. What is your reaction to that, sir, in light of your recent visit to the Middle East in which you appealed for an increase in output?
THE PRESIDENT: I think it's a mistake to have your biggest customer's economy slow down, or your biggest customers' economies slowing down as a result of high energy prices. It's not the only result -- our economy is slowing down. I mean, obviously we've got a housing issue and some credit issues. But no question, the high price of gasoline has hurt economic growth here in the United States. And if I were a member of OPEC, I'd be concerned about high energy prices causing people to buy less energy over time.
And the other thing high energy prices of course does, which is stimulate alternative fuels, which we're doing a lot here in America. We're spending a lot of money on biofuels and ethanols and new ways to make ethanol. My advice to OPEC -- of course they haven't listened to it -- but my advice to OPEC is to understand the consequences of high energy prices, because I do, and I understand this is affecting our American citizens. It's making it harder for people to be able to drive, and it's making it tough for families to save.
And so not only is it -- high energy prices having an effect on -- a macro effect on our economy, it's affecting a lot of our families, which troubles me, as well. And by the way, the higher energy prices stay, the more likely it is countries will quickly diversify. And that's part of our strategy.
The man sounds like a fucking third grader. I'll be very happy when I don't have to listen to his voice or read his quotes anymore. It's like mental pollution. I'll feel much better next year.
The very best and hot issues
The very best and hot issues of the day is the lower interest rate of the taxes rate given to the citizen of America isn’t this issues such prevail to the needs of the of the country I don’t think so.
My fellow Americans, did you think about the issues in play before you cast your vote in the November 4 election? That this would be nice to think that most of you did, but I know that the reality of how much people think about their political choices is less than studied. Many of us, they may even think of too much expectation of about how will be the next presidential winner and may even have studied more about whether you should take out a payday advance than who to vote for. As a case in point, check out this brief audio snippet from a recent episode of “The Howard Stern Show,” posted courtesy of BPM Deejays of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Roving Reporter Sal sought the opinions of men and women on the street, to see whether they supported Barack Obama or John McCain for President. Admittedly, they were attempting to gauge whether African-Americans would automatically vote for Obama simply because he’s black. That point is driven home by the location Sal obtains his samples from: Harlem, New York. However, the trick Sal employs in his interviews is telling. By reversing the candidates’ positions on issues like the pro-life argument, stem cell research, the war in Iraq and who Sarah Palin is – attributing McCain’s positions to Obama – Sal gets people to admit that they support all kinds of ideas that Obama wants little or nothing to do with. He exposes the ugly truth that many of us are ignorant when it comes to the issues. We parrot popular opinions and flow along with our peer groups. But when it comes to things like presidential elections and your vote, I hope you thought about it considerably.
