Brief Post, Selfishness

I just heard Hillary Clinton, state that Obama's choice would be "Whatever is best for him, the party and the country". This brings to mind my problem with the politics of personality, party politics, and nationalism, that is, the problem of selfishness. I understand that yes, there will always be a drive to look out for oneself first, but to look only that far seems to be dangerous. So much of the evil, destructive behavior in the world begins with one's or one's group's best interests at heart, then spirals into the destruction of others, whether individually or at large. Wouldn't it seem that the call of a politician ought to be "what is best", rather than "what is best for a specific group"? It flows back to a meditation I heard about, "Consider deeply each other person as a person, worth the same as you, then harm will become impossible" I think we could all benefit of that kind of deep consideration.

I'll play my own devil's

I'll play my own devil's advocate, because I feel slightly schizophrenic.

That sounds like a very nice Utopian vision, but politicians are not elected, and the mandate is not given, by the world at large, it comes from a specific group. Likewise each person has, ask any psychologist, a duty to maintain self interest and allegiance and loyalty to those around them. To do something detrimental, or even neutral but time or resource consuming, to the group or self, for the benefit of an outside entity, would therefore seem a betrayal. This is not to argue for total greed, since that would negate all goals of human kindness, but to request extraordinary actions to be taken selflessly doesn't seem reasonable. Kindness and nicety have their places, but there needs to be a limit, the expectation must be self interest, and kindness be extraordinary. This comes off as a dark view of humanity, but the realities of society, politics, and existence all push toward the goal of self preservation over the protection of others.

Paix et amour,
Joe!

You know, I think that Obama

You know, I think that Obama will likely be a decent president as he guides us towards a new global government run by the bankers. And isn't that what we all need?

It's not a question of Obama

It's not a question of Obama being a "decent president" but more on what his plan of action will be to resucitate the ailing US economy. That is the strategy which any new president should prioritize.
