Okay, so I've been struggling with these things for a long time. The generation gap of the 60's, the generation gap today, activism, etc. My parents used to be major hippies, and whereas I feel my mother has kind of lost touch (yay mercedes! marble bathrooms for all!) my pop is really still in tune with it, and understands my frustration with the current 'way of the world.' I spoke to him at length about the 60's. The few things that hit me (and that I wrote down) went as follows:

Hey Can Someone Help Me Out?

Hey.

This summer I have to get a job. I want it to be activist orientated or some sort of internship. I'm learning French, and very liberal. Also are there any scholarships for queer kids to travel abroad? Thanks! I live in CA and I'm under 18...that should help your search if anyone wants to help me out.

The religious right is being really weird again.

http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/01/religious-right-says-barbie-is.html

Yes, boys and girls, Barbie is promoting the insidious homo-fascist agenda!

Now that article doesn't have the reasoning behind this unusual claim, but here it is http://www.cwfa.org/articles/9788/CWA/misc/

The thrust of it is that there is an option on a question about gender on a barbie game saying "I don't know", which, to anyone with half a brain is an obvious call to bisexuality (Not to anyone with more than half a brain, but I digress).

PLEASE WRITE PETA

Read the above informaiton. PETA is a wonderful resource, but it has some major hypocrisy going on. PETA kills animals, and has the money and resources to be a no-kill shelter. PLEASE WRITE PETA and ask them RESPECTFULLY to stop killing animals. We have to flood them with e-mails/calls/etc. Please pass it on, and show support!

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/03/24/sexchange.firing.ap/index.html

LARGO, Florida (AP) -- City commissioners early Saturday made final the firing of a city manager who is seeking a sex-change operation, despite pleas from dozens of impassioned supporters to save his job.

After a six-hour hearing, the commissioners decided to fire 48-year-old Steve Stanton after his announcement that he planned a new life as a woman. The move came after the commission voted 5-2 last month to suspend him with pay.

Commissioners contended Stanton was being fired because they lost confidence in him, not because he wants to be a woman.
