One of the greatest way to influence public figures is to present them with the signatures of constitutents. This can apply to elected officials, party figures, and business leaders.
If you post it here, someone will sign it.
Also, if you don't mind revealing yourself, when someone posts a petition can you please leave them a comment saying "signed"? This will encourage future LtL'ers to post, as it shows that bringing a petition to the community will get results.
I want to see tons of them around here.

Petition 1: Tell Congress to override Bush's veto of children's healthcare.
Petition 2: Show solidarity with kids in Darfur.
Petition 3: Tell Congress and the Senate to keep the strongest anti global warming provisions intact as they finish up work on this summer's energy bill.

Petition to permanently protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil drilling.

So this is probably getting around by now, but I want to post this anyways.
Very recently, a UF student-Andrew Meyer, was arrested and tasered by UF police at a John Kerry speech in Gainesville, FLorida. After having his mic cut, Meyer was dragged from the mic by the police, while yelling "why am I being arrested?!" and "help me!". As the police dragged him from the auditorium, he began to resist the officers (All 5 of them) and so they threw him to the ground and tasered him. I linked two videos below, and you can hear the taser go off, as well as Meyer's screams of pain.

Write to your representitive. Get's redundant, but why not?

Also, write to Pelosi:

Here is another letter to send, like a petition, and Cheney will receive a pink slip (brought to you by codepink). There's no reason not to, right?

Hey, here is a pre-made letter that you can edit and send to your representative telling him/her not to buy into W's war. In September, Congress will vote on another $142 billion to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for FY 2008. August is a pivotal time - act now.

Tell Congress to Impeach Cheney. Also, urge Nancy Pelosi and the Judiciary Committeeto hold hearings about impeachment.

For Health Care, not Warfare.... I found this on Michael Moore's website. I don't know what you guys think of him, but I love him. What else is new? I am in Virginia, leaving tomorrow. Richmond is a beautiful city - I recommend it to everyone.

Okay, so if you have been a member of this group for a little while on LtL or if you generally support Labor then you most likely heard of the Employee Free Choice Act. If not the two largest Labor Organization federations, the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and the Change To Win Coalition (CtW) have plenty to say about what the bill would do and why is important to all Americans, but especially those of us who work for a living.

Please sign.
Background:
The federal government is on the verge of turning over a huge portion of our public airwaves to companies like AT&T, Verizon, and Comcast--who will use them for private enrichment instead of the public good.
These newly available airwaves are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to revolutionize Internet access -- beaming high-speed signals to every park bench, coffee shop, workplace, and home in America at more affordable prices than current Internet service. Phone and cable companies don't want this competition to their Internet service--they'd rather purchase the airwaves at auction and sit on them.

I like the ideas behind this, but I don't know if it can accomplish its objectives. Not because it's a bad bill, but it might require complementary bills to resolve the whole issue (campaign finance reform).

Simple petition, but a good one to sign since it's on an important issue and going directly to Congress by way of a messenger who carries a lot of weight on this subject.
