Labels for slave labor produced goods (a.k.a., Wal Mart's worst nightmare)

What if on every product produced in factories that pays their workers two cents an hour or something, there was a label on the packaging that said, “Inspector general’s warning: This product may have been produced by slave labor.”?

Like the same deal as with cigarettes, except it’s a public service for a moral, not a health issue. It'd be like giving a scarlet letter to all the companies treating people like shit.

Products that rise above a certain standard would be allowed to not have the label. For example, most American-made products wouldn’t have to carry it because the majority of our workers are not mistreated. Where the line could be drawn is debatable, but it's just be nice to have an explicit, obvious way to identify the worst offenders.

American Eagle Back-to-School Boycott

American Eagle has the money, power and influence to ensure the workers at its contractor’s warehouse are treated fairly and justly. Sure, they can sit back and take the easy road. AE uses the excuse: we don’t own the warehouse anymore…our hands are tied...we can’t do anything about it. That’s BS.

Action Alert: Employee Free Choice Act - SMASH THE GOP FILIBUSTER!

As we all know (or should know) by now, the Employee Free Choice Act passed the House 241 to 185.  That is roughly 56.6%.  Translated into Senate terms, that percentage would be 57 votes at best, 3 short of breaking a filibuster.  And make no mistake, Republicans are planning to filibuster to block Workers Rights.  A closer look at the House votes, however, shows some of the most vulnerable Republicans for 2008.

The first two things you can do to help turn the tide in the Senate is to sign this petition and write a letter to the editor.

The Democratic Party is circulating a petition calling for members of congress to vote for the Employee Free Choice Act tomorrow on the floor of the House.

If you sign it, you will do a great service to American working families. It will only take a second so please add your name to the list!

Below the fold is just the text of Gov./Dr./Chairman Dean's excellent summary of the EFCA, in case you are curious.
