Ye olde news ticker-

No justice seems to be abroad in the world. The first man on trial for the Haditha Massacre was aquitted today. Though, he seems to not be the worst of the bad guys, so maybe there's hope.

Mr. Obama has offered to support Israel if elected, and clarified beautifully what he meant when he said he would negotiate with Iran.

We seem to be continually getting in trouble for torturing detainees. Oh, I'm sorry, using "Advanced interrogation methods". In other news, the US has reclassified the 1994 Rwanda conflict as "Advanced population control".

Really cool idea from Britain. I'd like to see that exported to the US.

Interesting analysis of the Food Crisis in different nations, from the BBC.

Thailand is burning.

And the US has detained a Canadian Journalist for having videos and contact information of top Taliban leaders. Yes, arrested him, held him three months without trial, for doing his job as a member of the press. We're kind of evil, a little bit.

There was something about the Democratic Primary... but I forget what it is, must not have been that important.

Paix et amour,
Joe!

Food for thought:

In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really
good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they actually change
their minds and you never hear that old view from them again.  They really
do it.  It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are
human and change is sometimes painful.  But it happens every day.  I cannot
recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion.

So San Diego County is burning down right now. My house is safe (for now), but there's heavy smoke plumes to the north and south. Been glued to the TV most of the day with my fam hoping the wind doesn't shift. We packed some stuff up but hopefully we won't get the order to evacuate.

After some wailing and gnashing of teeth, I turned on CAPTCHAs for new user registration. I also implemented CAPTCHAs for anonymous user commenting. This means you no longer need a user account to comment on blog posts.

So, if the election were tomorrow, who'd you want to see fighting for the office? Right now, I'd enjoy an Edwards ticket vs. a Paul ticket.

Is it just me, or are Facebook applications going the way of email chain-letters? Some of the stuff is useful, or intriguing, but I really have no desire to add "bumper stickers", or Vampires vs. Zombies, or a Super Wall. The wall I have right now is satisfactory, thank you. Now if you'll excuse me, I have an early bird special to get to before my canasta game.

Also, I bought a new MP3 player today, and it isn't an iPod. I'll have more as to why this is a big deal in terms of free speech and copyright tomorrow.

Finance question:

If you had to cut back on what you spent on a monthly basis, which of these would you reduce your spending on: food, clothing, entertainment, or healthcare? Why that area?
