This is what bad government causes:

LONDON, Sept 19 (Reuters) - Economic crisis, hunger and the impact of AIDS are pushing Zimbabwean children as young as seven to risk exploitation and walk alone or in small groups into South Africa, aid group Save the Children said on Wednesday.

Hungry, tired and often orphaned, the children come in hope of food, work or schooling. More often, they end up being exploited by unscrupulous guides or employers and end up living in squatter camps or rubbish dumps, the agency said.

It's sad how people divide on account of skin color.  Schools choosing students by race?  I think that's a little extreme.

Ukraine is still a young democracy and is still experiencing political turmoil.  I hope this is resolved peacefully.  I have a deep respect for Ukraine.  Russia, on the other hand, is a world leader (kind of) and they need to get their act in gear... what kinds of attitudes are these

Open Your Eyes, the World Surrounds Us

Here is a nice homemade video of Snow Patrol’s song “Open Your Eyes.” The creator of the video is a Director of High School Ministry in rural Indiana, so please take that into consideration when noticing the diversity used in the video.

The point is of course is to open our eyes, take notice and move our feet into action, hence the high schoolers work near the end of the video. Enjoy.

But since I don't know how to add a You Tube video here on Lose the Label, click this link here.

  • President Bush now accepting applications for "war czar" to manage Iraq and Afghanistan. Three generals have already rejected the offer.
    • "The very fundamental issue is, they don't know where the hell they're going," said retired Marine Gen. John J. "Jack" Sheehan, a former top NATO commander who was among those rejecting the job. Sheehan said he believes that Vice President Cheney and his hawkish allies remain more powerful within the administration than pragmatists looking for a way out of Iraq.

Cleft Lip and Palate

This past Christmas, I was in my bedroom, minding my own business, hanging out on the computer. A knock came to my door and I opened it. My mom came in and told me “Every year at Christmas we give money to a charity or an organization.” And this time she wanted to give it to Smile Train. She asked me what I thought… For those of you who don’t know what Smile Train is, it is a wonderful group of doctors and volunteers who travel the world and give poor children who were born with cleft lips and palates surgery, correcting the lip, the roof of the mouth, and giving kids a whole new chance at life.

I see that there are a lot of new people here now. I would just like to welcome the new faces and encourage you to get involved as much as possible, that's what this site is all about.

Now that I got that out of the way, I saw this story browsing CNN and thought it might be of interest to people. The short summary: 745,000 homeless people on any given night in the U.S.

It's sad that we spend so much money on wars of various sorts. (Iraq, locking up or nonviolent offenders in the war on drugs, etc.) All the while we have problems right at home all around us like this. Anyway, just thought I would share the link instead of just welcoming the new people.
